If I had to pick the most difficult topic I had while teaching reading it would easily have been making inferences. I always thought this stemmed from the fact that a lot of kids don’t naturally elaborate in their own mind on what is taking place in a story. It’s almost like they use the same reading strategies with a fictional piece of literature that they would use with a non fiction piece of literature. I liked the books idea of using picture cartoons to develop this reading strategy. It’d be a good way to practice while using a non threatening tool.
